Switching Xero accountant

Changing accountant should not feel like changing your whole finance system.

If your records are already in Xero, the practical handover can be kept focused. Scrase Associates agrees the scope, completes the professional clearance process and reviews the opening position before taking responsibility.

A controlled handover

Your Xero records stay in place.

The aim is not to recreate your bookkeeping or force a software migration. Access, responsibilities, deadlines and any unfinished work are identified first so there is a clear cut-off between advisers.

  • You continue using the same Xero organisation.
  • We agree which accountant handles each outstanding filing.
  • Professional clearance and records are requested directly.
  • Your Xero file is reviewed before the fixed fee is confirmed.
  • You receive a written scope and practical start date.

The switching process

Four practical stages.

1

Tell us what is changing

Send the business type, year end, current services, deadlines and the reason you are considering a move.

2

Review the Xero position

We assess whether the records are current and identify catch-up work before quoting.

3

Complete the handover

Once appointed, professional clearance and relevant records are requested from the outgoing accountant.

4

Start with clear ownership

The agreed filings, timetable, information requirements and communication route are confirmed in writing.

Before you move

Useful information for a quick assessment.

You do not need to send confidential records with the first enquiry. A concise outline is enough to establish whether the service fits.

  • Company or business name and year end
  • Services currently provided
  • Next accounts, VAT, payroll and tax deadlines
  • Whether Xero is reconciled to the latest bank statement
  • Any known outstanding work or HMRC correspondence
  • Your preferred timing for the change

Straight answers

Questions clients often ask before switching.

Must I wait until the financial year end?

No. A change can be considered at any point, although it is sensible to identify imminent filing deadlines and unfinished work before deciding the handover date.

Will I lose my Xero history?

The service is designed for businesses continuing with their existing Xero organisation. The accounting history remains in that organisation; the practical task is agreeing and granting the appropriate adviser access.

Do I have to telephone my existing accountant?

You decide how to notify them. Once Scrase Associates is formally appointed, the professional clearance and records request is handled accountant-to-accountant.

Can the new fee be confirmed before I switch?

Yes. The proposed scope and fee are confirmed in writing before appointment, subject to the information provided and any issues revealed by the Xero review.

Start with a written enquiry

Considering a change of Xero accountant?

Start with a written outline of the business, current services and upcoming deadlines. Tony will respond by email and suggest a focused callback only if it would help.
